Our Club is situated in Adelaide's southern
parklands, off Beaumont Road. Approached from South Terrace, our
clubrooms are right in the parklands, just to the west of Beaumont Road,
opposite the southern end of Victoria Park Racecourse.
The roadway here provides adequate parking as long
as members park with consideration for others, as we often have 200 cars
attending on Tuesday evenings.
We train under lights at night,
and are visible from some distance.
You need to bring your dog, and its vaccination certificate.
Either cash or cheque is acceptable for payment of fees.
The club does not extend to credit-card facilities.
There's no need to book in advance, as new members
join each week,
but do try to ensure you arrive by 10.15 a.m. on Tuesday mornings, or 7.15 p.m.
on Tuesday evenings, as there is some paperwork to attend to.
Our club conducts Basic
Obedience training from Puppy fun classes (for pups aged from approximately
14 weeks, or as soon as their second vaccinations
have taken effect, until 6 months of age), through five class levels,
to the achievement of a Basic Obedience Certificate on graduation from
Grade 5.
A group assessment is conducted at the last training session of
each month, at which time those who have achieved the required standard
of work graduate into the next class for the following month, while those
not quite ready, will return for another month at that same class level,
usually to graduate a few weeks later.
Classes are allocated at the first training session of each month, but
members who miss that session for whatever reason, will
be slotted into an appropriate class the following week, or whenever they
next attend.
After Grade 5, there are higher-level classes for those who wish to continue
their training in either Advanced Obedience or
Agility (and Jumping) , either
just for fun, or towards competition standard.
Since its inception, S.A.O.D.C. Has had consistently
good results in the trial ring, with some exceptional dogs and handlers
among our ranks in all disciplines.
Many of these experienced handlers have given their
time back to the Club as Instructors or Committee, and some have been
awarded Life Membership status for their contribution.
The South Australian Obedience Dog Club was founded
in 1955 by the late Harold Camm, a longtime instructor with the German
Shepherd Dog League, who was concerned that training was not available
anywhere at that time for non-pedigreed dogs, and crossbreeds, the ordinary
family pet.
S.A.O.D.C. Was established as the first all-breeds dog training
club to serve the Adelaide and surrounding community, which it has
done continuously and successfully ever since, an achievement and history
of which we are very proud.
In those early years, the late Nelson Gare
gained South Australia's first Australian Obedience Championship in 1964 with
his Boxer, Boxendale Bold Beau, the first of many such honours since achieved
by S.A.O.D.C. Members, several of whom have shared their experience and
skills with us as Instructors.
S.A.O.D.C. Is affiliated with the South Australian Canine Association,
and enjoys a good working relationship with our governing body, and with
other Dog Obedience clubs operating under their 'umbrella', as well as
with the Adelaide City Council in whose parklands our Clubrooms and grounds
are situated.

During training sessions on Tuesday mornings
and evenings, , the club Treasurer attends for membership transactions,
and a Sales Counter operates, selling training equipment and other requirements.
